This calculator derives fundamental video timing and bandwidth metrics from either a selected industry timing (CTA/CEA or VESA) or a custom set of porch/sync values that you provide. It consolidates horizontal and vertical blanking, computes total active + blanking pixels per line and per frame, and then determines the pixel clock and aggregate link bandwidth required for transmission.

Results reported:

  • Horizontal Total Pixel = Active + Total Horizontal Blanking
  • Vertical Total Lines = Active + Total Vertical Blanking
  • Total Pixel per Frame per Sec = H Total × V Total × Refresh Rate
  • Pixel Clock (MHz) = (Total Pixel per Frame per Sec) / 10^6
  • Total Link Bandwidth Used (Gbps) = Pixel Clock × Effective Bits per Pixel ÷ 1000

Instructions

  1. You may choose either preset resolution or custom resolution that you require in the calculator. If you choose any preset resolution (CTA/CEA or VESA), the parameters will be populated automatically.
  2. If you choose to customize, please populate the horizontal/vertical active and blanking information. Then, populate the rest of the parameters (color format, Pixel Per Clock, Refresh Rate (Hz), and so on).
  3. The calculator will auto-calculate the total link bandwidth used (Gbps), as well as required pixel clock.
  4. Click "Clear" to reset the calculator.
